Pickering Station .. waiting for a train in 1943.
The Coldstream Guards Warrant Officer posing here appears to be the
cause of some hilarity with the ladies. Perhaps a ladies man ...

This group walking in to Goathland for a train are
not wholeheartedly behind the war effort.
They look suspiciously like spivs and their wives.
Would you buy a car off this man .... ?

Home Guard duties at Goathland Station.

The NAAFI canteen, which as all servicemen and women know
stood for No Ambition and Very Little Interest.
Someone must be detailed to peel the spuds,
and my money's on that officer sat at the back.

This American airman might well smile ... he's already pulled !

I said he was suspicious ... but, what has that copper got in HIS gas bag ?

'Allo, 'Allo ! A nightmare scenario ... Oh no, it's not in England, this is Le Visham
in occupied France. The Gestapo seem very interested in what that lady has hidden
up her dress, which turned out to be a radio receiver and two allied airmen.
A good time was had by all, but the quips and levity can never hide or masquerade the fact that
these were seriously hard times for the British public, an era that we should never forget about.
The nation that forgets or mislays its history is destined to repeat it.
